Introducing John Beckett!

On May 1 John "Beckett" came fast and furiously into this world! I had literally just received a "no progress" report from my sister on my way home from work. Then, while making dinner I received a text from Ryan announcing they were in the delivery room and ready to push. WHAT?! Apparently, shortly after I had gotten off the phone with Lindsey her contractions escalated from infrequent to every minute and Ryan had to rush her to the hospital during rush hour traffic!!! She arrived to the hospital registration desk at 9 cm (!!!) where her water exploded, and 30 minutes later she was face timing me to debut the most precious little man! She and baby are doing terrific!
7 pounds 11 ounces | 20 inches long | May 1, 2017
Isn't he perfect?
Time for the big bro/little bro meeting...

Jackson is going to love being a big bro to baby Beckett! Congratulations to Lindsey and Ryan for another perfect addition to our family! I cannot wait to get down there in a few weeks and smush allllll over those cheeks!

Home Tour: Staircase Makeover + Refinished Hardwoods

Outside of our master bathroom renovation I think our staircase makeover and flooring have been among our biggest transformations in our new home! Let's take a look at what we were working with...

BEFORE

Hardwoods Refinishing

We knew refinishing our hardwoods would be a pretty penny to do but we are beyond happy we did it now...because had we not, we probably would have never done it! Also, this project (and interior paint) really transformed the house into home for us. It made our new space feel clean, updated, and more like us!
Originally we had planned to go super dark on our floors. In fact, Matt and I were both split between Jacobean for his vote and Dark Walnut for mine. But after receiving so many comments on my insta-stories advising us not to go dark, we reconsidered our stain. I owe you all a huge thanks for the stern warnings against being slaves to cleaning dark floors. So we asked for 4 more colors to review...
And then we had the kids run all over them to give them the ultimate dirt test and polled our friends a million times before selecting...
50% Dark Walnut mixed with 50% Provincial. And we've been REALLY happy with them.
I almost cried happy tears when our hardwoods guy sent me this picture of the freshly stained floors (still very wet here)! A tremendous improvement from the well loved honey stained floors. We also replaced all of the floor return registers throughout the house. Most of the original vents were either broken or severely rusted out and disgusting...
I loved the wicker design on these registers. You can buy them from Amazon or if you're frugal like me you can go to ebay and buy a set of $15 off $50 printable Lowes coupons for .99 and then buy your registers in quantities of 4 at a time from Lowes. It may not sound like much, but when you need like 20 registers, this savings adds up quickly! I placed all of my orders online for in-store pick-up and I also used ebates for cash back on all of my Lowes purchases! You can sign up for ebates here!

Staircase Banister
The next project was painting the banister. I knew painting the banister was a risky move but it was one I was willing to take -- and I'm so glad I did. I am obsessed with how it turned out. I wanted to go dark for a nice contrast, but not too dark since my walls were painted a super light grey. I spent many, many nights scrolling through Pinterest and researching paint colors. It finally came down to Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron and Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black.
We selected Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron and love that it's a super dark grey instead of black! It perfectly contrasts our wall paint and flooring.

And because I just can't get over the transformation, a side by side before and after picture:
The last few wish list items for this space are to find an entry way rug, a light pendant and something to put in the wall niche. Suggestions welcome!

An Out of Office Recap!

TODAY IS MY FIRST DAY OF WORK AT MY NEW JOB!!!!!
I can't believe it. A new firm. A new office. A new dress. New coworkers. It's crazy.

Anyway, in honor of my first day back in the working world, I thought I would recap the very best week of funemployment ever....
Monday. I was crazy productive on my first day off. I ran ALL the house errands (including 3 Home Goods stores, Target, Lowes, Home Depot, UPS, Goodwill, the list goes on...), scored a few pairs of my favorite work pants on sale at Loft, supervised the tile guy finishing our bathroom floor, rearranged the kitchen drawers (for the third time) and busted open a sentimental bottle of wine -- gifted by my sweet friend McKinsey.

Tuesday. I dusted off some gift cards for an afternoon at the spa at The Ritz. For my 30th birthday my girlfriends surprised me with a massage and my former boss (still feels weird to say that) previously gifted me a pedicure too. I had been wanting to redeem these two services together to spend a day at the spa, but it's so hard to find the time as a working mama! I hate being away from my kiddos during our time together on the weekend so these have been sitting in a drawer forever. Anyway, the spa was everything and more I could possibly have dreamed of. I received a relaxing massage, the perfect pink pedicure, a crisp glass of champagne, sat by the pool with a skyline view (which ironically looked straight into my NEW office!) and enjoyed a 16 shower head shower before coming back to reality.
Wednesday. Date night at our favorite fancy restaurant, Fig Tree! We love celebrating special occasions at Fig Tree (see: birthday & baby) and a new house and new job was definitely a solid reason to return for a yummy dinner. This was our favorite visit yet. We started with veal carpaccio, salads and Matt got the ostrich and I got the filet. We loved it all. Then we polished off our last cocktails with the most incredible beignets!
Thursday. By Thursday I officially never wanted to return to the workforce ever again. But also keep my kids in daycare full time. How do I get there? Ha! Anyway, I hosted some of my very best friends over for lunch and a home tour. For lunch I whipped up a delicious summer salad and thawed some cheesecake bites for dessert. I even broke out my fancy bottle of rose` for the occasion! If only lunch could be that fun every day! A little later I picked up the babies from school a few hours early and met back up with the mamas for a play date!

Friday. It was my last day of "vacation" so I made sure to get up bright and early to maximize the day! Off I went to run a bunch of last errands, grabbed a pretty new work dress (40% off), got my car serviced, cashed in a massage that Matt got me for Christmas, met my bestie Laura for lunch at Cabo Fish Taco and ended the day at a neighborhood happy hour that our street threw to welcome us!

And now it's truly back to reality...
